Café des Musées for me is a quintessence of a perfect French brasseire – with rough décor, unpretentious atmosphere, menu changing according to the season and a great chief. I am sure you would pass it by without noticing (as I have many times before!) but this truly Parisian place offers the best food at Marais at very affordable prices.
There are wonderful pâtés (served with little cornichons), smoked salmon, wonderful cold meats and salads for starters; steaks, fish and mussels for main courses and meringues for dessert.
Café des Musée is this kind of a place where people would come every Saturday, with their paper and have the same table every time and request their favourite meal even if it’s not on a menu now. You see families eating together, lovers smiling to each other over a pot of mussels, friends sharing plates of cold meats, odd tourists trying something typique…
There are 3 interesting museums in the neighbourhood (thus the name) – Museum of Picasso (closed for refurbishment till 2012), Musée Carnavalet (museum of the history of Paris) and Musée Cognacq-Jay (art gallery) and a beautiful Place des Vosges so plenty to do after your lunch.
If you are thinking about a dinner at Café des Musées make sure to book before as the place gets quite busy.
Enjoy and let me know what you think!
