PicNic in Rome

Rome main

Fancy a little trip to Rome? Well, who doesn’t… I used to visit Rome from time to time when I lived in Italy but I have to admit I don’t know many places to recommend to you there. All restaurants I have visited were either too touristic, too expensive or not charming enough.
Fortunately, during my last trip to the Eternal City my neighbour on the plane revealed few of his favourite places to me and among them one, finally, met my expectations.
It’s nice, cute, a bit modern and trendy but not forgetting the tradition, very central but located in a quiet little street completely abandoned by tourists. GiNa is run by two friends, GIandomenico and CristiNA, who share similar passion for good food and great Italian hospitability. It attracts a very eclectic collection of customers – young trendy Romans, expats, some tourists, families celebrating anniversaries or just having a meal out together, single girls looking for some quite, undisturbed time…
To avoid disappointment make sure to book a table – you can either call, email or even visit them the previous day.

As GiNa is located very close to the beautiful Villa Borghese park, its owners took advantage of this neighbourhood and offer the possibility to buy picnic baskets in their restaurant. The concept is call PicNic and if you want to book your selection of sandwiches, salads and desserts along with your favourite wines and a thermos of hot Italian coffee contact GiNa and they will have it all ready for you. The package includes cutlery, glasses, plates and a nice tablecloth so you will be eating in style.

If you don’t have plans for the rest of the day I would recommend a stroll in my favourite part of Rome – Trastevere. This old district still maintains its own character and is full of wonderful local restaurants, shops, bars and markets. Its cosmopolitan character and openness attract many artists, tourists and cool hipsters who make its narrow cobbled streets very vivid, especially at nights… Let me know if you find any places worth visiting there.

Ci vediamo a Roma!
